Tattoo Aftercare
Things to Remember
- Your tattoo is an open wound – your body can’t tell the difference.
- Tattoo aftercare is crucial. Be aware of this process and your surroundings while your tattoo heals.
- Reach out to us if you have questions about deviating from our recommended aftercare. Instructions can vary among different professionals.
To Do and Not to Do
DO
- Keep your bandages on your new tattoo for at least a few hours, or until the end of the day. If your artist used Saniderm or Tegaderm (basically a medical cling wrap), keep it on for at least two days. If it comes off sooner on its own, feel free to remove it gently.
- Rinse and wash it thoroughly using warm water, antibacterial soap, and your hands.
- Pat dry (don’t wipe!) with a paper towel. You can use a cloth towel but be mindful that the ink could stain the fabric.
- Lightly apply lotion 1-2 times per day. We recommend Lubriderm or Jergens – you can use pretty much anything, just make sure it’s unscented.
- Keep it clean! Normal showers are fine, just not too long!
DON’T
- Wipe or rub your skin. Or use anything you mind ruining with ink.
- Soak in water. Stay away from pools, hot tubs, oceans, and absolutely no rivers.
- Over moisturize or use anything scented.
- Sit in sunlight. Especially direct.
A tattoo will take anywhere between 2-4 weeks to heal, depending on the individual. A reliable way to tell that it’s healed is if it’s no longer shiny.
Once it’s healed DO apply sunscreen regularly! This will protect the longevity of your new ink.
