Our Neo Traditional Work

Neo Traditional tattoos provide a vibrancy that isn’t typical among traditional tattoo styles, relying on more bright colors and contrast.  Just as unique as neo traditional tattoos themselves, are the fundamentals essential to not only that trademark vibrancy, but also their longevity.  Below is a sampling of neo traditional pieces done by the artists of Mantle.

Neo traditional tattoos: what to know

Neo traditional builds on American traditional's bold outlines with more depth, a wider color palette and more detail, from dimensional shading to ornate framing.

Who it suits

People who like traditional's punch but want richer color and illustration: animals, portraits, florals, mythological figures, and designs with decorative frames or jewelry.

Size and placement

The added detail needs a bit more space than traditional. Medium to large pieces on the forearm, upper arm, thigh, calf, chest or back leave room for shading and color blends. Neo traditional also works well as the centerpiece of a sleeve.

Healing and aging

Healing usually takes two to four weeks. Color looks dull or cloudy while the skin peels and brightens as it settles. The bold outline keeps the design readable for years; keep healed color out of direct sun so it stays vibrant.
