Our Fine Line Work
Fine Line tattoos require skill: a steady hand, and mastery of a delicate touch are necessities. Composed primarily of light, intentional shading and thin lines, fine line tattoos can be used to create designs ranging from minimal to intricate. Knowing that not all lines are created equally, browse just a few of the fine line tattoos completed by the artists of Mantle.
Fine line tattoos: what to know
Fine line work uses a single needle or small groupings to build thin, crisp lines and soft shading. It rewards careful planning more than almost any other style.
Who it suits
Anyone who wants a subtle, detailed piece: botanicals, celestial and geometric designs, small portraits of pets, or script accents. It makes a good first tattoo, and it sits well next to other fine line work.
Size and placement
Fine lines need room. We often suggest going a little larger than you first picture, so details don't crowd together as the skin ages. Forearms, upper arms, ribs, collarbones and shoulders hold fine line well; fingers, hands and feet fade faster.
Healing and aging
The surface heals in two to four weeks and fully settles over a few months. Thin lines soften slightly over the years. Sun is the biggest cause of fading, so SPF on healed tattoos makes a real difference.
